This past Sunday, I didn't have to be on the stage and had no official responsibilities. I wasn't working "in" it so I decided to work "on" it. I showed up at church at 10:52 for the 11:00 am gathering for some evaluation. I wanted to get a feel for the parking lot, walking in the building, kids check in, coffee bar, hosts, tech, band, announcements- the whole process. I just sat down in the middle of a row and for the first time ever, over the course of our history, I sat down through a whole service. I had fresh eyes and a great experience. I decided to come back next week. Some interesting things I observed was that it was relaxing and weird being home on a Sunday morning. When I came to church, I had to wait a while to turn left on to Schamber Drive. Our parking lot is a little crazy and can be hard to find spots and our signs aren't effective because their are so many people and the chaos doesn't let your eyes go to the signs inside and out. There are a lot of people and there is great energy in the crowd. My answer to the greeting questions: What do you like to grill? Answer: Mark. There was this beautiful woman singing - she was good...and a hottie. The best part was how much our Journey Kids team cared for my kids. I understand my kids might get special treatment but it was awesome how much they cared. I posted something on facebook about Emma scoring a goal in her soccer game. She got 3 high fives for that on Sunday and people were loving on Eli for his birthday. It was special for me as a dad. Thanks to the so many people who work with kids. We spent about an hour in staff meeting today discussing some improvements and evaluation. Overall, there were some minor tweeks we need to work out but I love The Journey. I would go there if I didn't work there. I laughed. I was touched by the stories (even though I edited them). I had a great time. I connected with God. My kids had a great time. To all our volunteers and peeps - Thanks for making to The Journey great!
